Companionship still tops

The results of a survey by the U.S. pollsters Zogby, out this week put companionship firmly at the top of people's reasons for keeping a pet.

Out of over 600 pet owners questioned nearly 70% listed companionship and love for animals as the major reason.

3.3% said they owned a pet for security,
13.6% kept animals because the pet needed a home,
11.2% found pets entertaining,
1.5% felt they could learn from their pets.

Pet owners were asked:
'What is your primary reason for owning a pet?'

Companionship/Love,
Security, Entertainment,
Education,
The animal needs a home?
