Health Products Market To Remain Healthy |
The global market for animal health products is forecast to grow by around 15%
by 2005 according to a report - 'Animal Health A World Survey' undertaken by industries monitor -
Euromonitor plc.
This continues the trend seen between 1995 and 1999 which saw an increase in the same market of 16.1%, and matches world pet market figures (15% growth) for the period 1994 to 1998. In a summary, the report goes on to say that: "Most of the leading players have augmented their position in the animal health market by means of merger and acquisition activity during recent years. The top 10 companies were estimated to account for 49.4% of global sales in 1999." There has been a generally increasing level of vaccination of companion animals in developed markets and it is predicted that direct-to-consumer advertising will intensify in the companion animal sector, particularly in support of innovative new product introductions. "In line with wider market trends, veterinary practices will increasingly focus on treatment of companion animals", says the report. The internet is expected to become an increasingly important source of information and advice about veterinary pharmaceuticals and will be used increasingly as a source of purchase of over the counter healthcare products for companion animals, within the context of the supply of general pet care products.
