Room To Expand In France

The French petfood market is seeing a changeover from wet to dry or semi-moist products and an expansion of specialized stores.

According to the French Review of the Animal Feeds magazine, petfood professionals attending a November 2000 meeting in Dijon, France were informed that the petfood market in France was worth 8 billion francs in 1999.

Reports given at the meeting said that there were good prospects for increased sales, since industrial petfoods currently account for no more than 50% of total intake by domestic animals in France with the remainder made up of human leftovers and fresh foods.

The meeting, which brought together petfood professionals from France, Belgium and Switzerland was organised by Critt 2Abi.
