Getting Rabbits Right

The first of a collection of 8 video titles has been announced by a top rabbit breeder.

Having worked in a large veterinary centre alongside his veterinary wife, Lew Bevan who has been breeding rabbits for over 40 years has issued the first in a series of video guides to keeping rabbits

In practice Lew saw many rabbits presenting with problems related to incorrect nutrition. Talking to clients taught Lew that most people had no idea what a complete balanced nutritional rabbit diet was.

Recognising that the Racing Pigeon hobby had over 80 video titles available to enthusiasts teaching methods of training, feeding and racing he set about producing the first in his series of instructional rabbit videos.

Getting Rabbits Right is broken down into sections giving specific information on feeding, housing, handling and healthcare with additional information on clubs and organisations that will be of interest to new or novice 'Fanciers'.

An increased interest in rabbit keeping has been noticed by feed companies who now make a much greater selection of dietary formulas. Most are still low in fibre content but this can be easily put right by supplementing with long fibre hay and straw.

Lew's understanding of rabbits stems from the days of allotment gardens in his home town of Doncaster when rabbits were fed home grown produce and allotment keepers had an in depth knowledge of the needs of their animals, demonstrated by the quality of the stock they produced.

In the past 3 years or so, we have seen the change from hutch animals to house rabbits. The British house Rabbit Association (BHRA) now has almost 3000 members, many of whom prefer to give their rabbit the freedom of the house.

The British Rabbit Council (BRC), is providing a £10 off voucher to go with each video reducing their first year's membership fee from £20 to £10.
