New Information Site For Aquatic Trade

Information on controls applying to the movement of live fish has been brought together for the first time at the newly launched eFishBusiness website.

In conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food, (MAFF), the National Assembly for Wales, (NAfW), and the Environment Agency, and with the help of funding from the Treasury, the Centre For Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science, (CEFAS), has developed its information site.

The announcement marks the completion of the first stage of a two year project to improve the flow of information on controls applying to fish farming, dealing and trade in live fish and the development of an interactive database.

As well as providing information and guidance on the legislative controls that apply to the live fish trade in England and Wales, the site provides background information as to how these controls are intended to prevent the introduction (and control the spread) of serious fish diseases.

The rules for all categories of fish movements are covered. Importers, dealers, fish farmers and fishery managers can download the various application, registration and notification forms they need direct from the site.

CEFAS is a scientific research and monitoring centre for fisheries management and environmental protection. It provides contract research, consultancy, advice and training to a variety of public and private sector clients.

It is an agency of MAFF with an annual turnover of over £25M, employing 450+ staff at four UK sites.
