UK Online Pet Shop Goes To Online Auction
Plutos Pets, a high ranking UKPets advertiser which recently traded off its Priority Points to another company, is up for sale on the auction site Ebay until 22 January. Having watched the company grow during its time with UKPets and with bidding currently at £4,000 - we can't help feeling that someone is getting themselves a bargain!
Plutos Pets built up its advertising status on UKPets over 2 years to establish itself as one of the top ten advertisers on the site. According to the company it found little successful advertising in other publications.
On her Ebay auction page Lorraine from Plutos Pets discusses where and how the pet shop was advertised during its two and a half years of trading:
"When we first started out we ran an advert in two trade publications, namely the trader and the market trader news.
"We ran these for 9 months each but after a while we realised that the only people who were ordering from that advert were people who had used us before so we ceased advertising there early 2006.
"The only other advertising we did was from a large mail and email shot which I compiled from addresses I obtained from yell.com.
"80% of all our orders (especially the larger ones) are from exisiting customers, they have seen the products, know the quality and thus are happy to order again.
"We also get a lot from word of mouth. If you search on various pet forums you will see our name everywhere. When we first started out people were anxious about ordering from us as they thought our prices were to good to be true.
"The only other major advertising we did was on ukpets.co.uk where we paid for an advert that appears on the right hand side of the screen. The way their advertising works is that you buy a number of points and if you are in the top 10 of points you get an advert on the frontpage. To get in the top 10 costs a grand and 1 point (costs pence) gets deducted per day. So once you have made the initial outlay you can keep yourself on their frontpage for around £50 per year."
Reasons for sale..
"We have been successfully running this business for the past 2 and a half years and have enjoyed continued success, growth and a loyal and expanding customer base.
"Due to poor health and the arrival of our son, the running of this business is no longer practical. We can no longer move boxes round all day."
UKPets would like to thank the business for its support over the past two years and wish you well for the future.
