Valentine's Day Spending On Pets Predicted

The online consumer market researcher BIGresearch has surveyed pet owner consumer spending plans for Valentine's Day 2008 on behalf of the world's largest retail trade association, the American National Retail Federation, (NRF).

The survey of just under 8,500 US consumers earlier this month found that 17.2% will be spending money on pets for Valentine's Day. Out of those 23+ million consumers who do buy for their pets, the average spend will come to $15.37 (£7.73), a total of $367 (£184) million.

In line with all other normal indicators for Valentine's day, the biggest spenders are predicted to be well-off young males in the 18 to 24 age group. However, of all consumers surveyed 18.7% of women will be buying for pets compared to 15.7% of men.
