Consultation On Dogs-On-Leads Control Order

Plymouth City Council, (PCC) has entered into a consultation period on a number of Dog Control Orders within its administrative area. In particular it wants dog walkers to keep their dogs on leads at all times in six of its city parks. The council is also reported to be training up 60 staff members to assist its Dog Wardens with enforcement of the new rules

PCC's 'Dogs on Leads Order' will apply to West Hoe Park, Moor View Park, Stoke Damerel Park, Houndiscombe Park, Thorn Park and Pounds House Gardens.

The effect of the new order will be to create an offence for a person who is in charge of a dog not to it on a lead on any land affected by the order. The offence will be punishable on conviction by a maximum fine of £1,000.

Comments on this and other proposed Dog Control Orders in Plymouth can be sent by email to animals@plymouth.gov.uk.

The consultation closes on 04 March 2008.
