GCCF Just Did Not Fancy It.. At All
A special meeting of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy, (GCCF) voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to reinstate the Our Cats newspaper as its Official Journal. Following months of uncertainty, lost subscriptions and revenues from advertising, Our Cats took the day, with 81 delegate votes, from two other candidates: Parkview Publishing and Seaview Design who left with 42 and 9 votes respectively.
The future of Our Cats had been looking bleak throughout the second half of last year after a GCCF decision in July to switch its Official Journal to Seaview Design's new glossy and at the time yet-to-be-published, Fancy! That magazine. This brought to an end 24 years of Our Cats official status.
For the back story try the following:
November 2007: Gunpowder, Treason And Plot.. At GCCF
January 2008: Fancy That - GCCF To Retain Our Cats (for a bit)
February 2008: Our Cats Regroup, To Face GCCF Challenge
Three candidates stood before 130 delegates on Wednesday and each was given the opportunity to put their case to the hall. They were then questioned from the floor. On a key point delegates were eventually given leave to ask if any of the candidates would attempt to sue the GCCF if they were not granted the contract. Only Anna Shafto of Seaview was unable to answer 'no' to that question. She may have sealed the fate of Fancy! That when she publicly threatened possible legal action late last year.
Fancy! That was produced for the Supreme Cat Show in November. This inaugural publication also turned out to be its last. We asked for a comment from Seaview but have not heard back from the company. As of today the Fancy! That website no longer exists. Maybe that is comment enough.
or maybe we should leave the final comment to the We Dont Fancy That campaigning website - which reads simply:
Well, We Don't Fancy That and apparently....Neither do the "Majority"!
