Mars Pet Food Storage Fire

A major central pet food distribution centre for Mars, Masterfoods (producer of Whiskas cat food and Pedigree dog food, has been destroyed by fire.

The Asfordby Storage & Haulage Ltd £7m storage facility at Melton Mowbray was so substantially destroyed in a fire that broke out on Thursday night, that it is likely to be demolished. The unit was reportedly packed with product from three local Masterfoods pet food factories.

A Mars spokesperson told reporters, simply:

"We are assessing the impact of this incident on our business."
